Form Organization to Fight Townley in Kansas

Salina Kansas January 10. The anti league action formed the American Defense League of Kansas to oppose Townley league activities. Five hundred veterans met and elected officers. Townley spoke to about 1,500 farmers urging political action and denouncing Governor Allen grain interests and “beef trust.” The group stresses law and order, opposes Townleyism, and frames an eight district unit structure.

Hunters plan herd extermination on Antelope Island

Two and thirty five buffalo on Antelope Island in Salt Lake City will be exterminated today by hunters who will take a head for every bison. J. W. Real Battle Over Extending Time of Taxes

Helena Jan 11 Final passage of the house substitute for senate bill 95 extends the time for payment of 1920 taxes and remits penalties while a second measure funds the cashing of legislators warrants. The bill delays delinquent tax sales to Oct 1 and refunds penalties if paid. a 1 percent monthly penalty applies after Oct 1. The measure also authorizes investing inactive funds in warrants drawn on the general fund. About 72 funds affected.

Expenditures of the average American family for rent fuel and light resisted and ran counter to a price decline in the last six months of 1920. Bureau of Labor Statistics figures show the cost of living in eight cities at the start of 1921 was 99.2 percent above 1914 and 115.1 percent above mid 1916.

Young Man Crushed In Small Mine

Joseph Conway aged 21 was crushed to death in a small coal mine near Hamlin when a 1208 pound rock fell from the roof. His father J M Conway of Billings walked with him and was unhurt.
