Montana Cattle Shipments and Inspection Report 1905
The Montana stock boards report 267 966 head shipped out in 1904 with 257 17 to eastern markets and 8 5 to coast. 450 cattle recovered for owners and 129 arrests for stock law violations. The 1903-04 market conditions caused many cattle to be held for 1905. the scab law increased inspector duty. and new rules on unloading cattle sparked congressional appeals for 36 hour runs to reduce damage.

Rankin Guilty of Manslaughter in Local Trial
District court reconvened Wednesday with J W Rankin found guilty of manslaughter in the murder of Morris after testimony that Rankin made threats and expressed regret for not killing Morris. Rankin faces up to ten years in the pen and is slated for sentencing Saturday morning. The session also covered Youmans slaughter case and the Sweet Grass water right matter set for Jan 15 with about 50 witnesses expected.

Howie Hails Local Holiday Events and Gifts
Howie residents hosted social and school events during the holidays. Miss Stella Severson and other pupils presented Dombey and Son while Anna Woral recited Resurrection. A successful band basket social raised 110 dollars for costs. The Howie district honored Mr. Tanis with a jeweled watch and chain.
