Hilda L. Bue and Cecil J. Carl were united in marriage at the Lutheran parsonage with Rev. E E Tollefson officiating. Attendants were Mr and Mrs Alfred Ostrum. The couple planned a honeymoon then will join the Carl cattle and wheat ranching venture.

Amerys Celebrate 25th Anniversary at Home

Relatives and friends gathered at the home of Howard Forsythe Tuesday to help Mr and Mrs W K Amery celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. Dinner was served at midnight. The table featured a large cake adorned with pink petals and silver leaves. The silver centerpiece included leaves and a bell. The bride of the couple was mentioned in the report.

District Basketball Tournament Opens At State College Gym

Bozeman starts the district 8 class B tournament at Montana State College with eight sessions from February 25. Top seeds White Sulphur, Willow Creek, Manhattan, Holy Rosary, and Belgrade lead the field. First round pairs include Wilsall vs Big Timber and Townsend vs Three Forks with Cathedral of Helena opening play Friday night.

Missoula Double Ring Wedding of Flattum and Viets

Morlan C Flattum and Leona Viets were married February 14 at St Pauls Lutheran church Missoula in a double ring ceremony officiated by Rev Tollefson. Attendants were Russell Flattum and Dale McFarlane. The reception followed at Dr and Mrs Gordon Overlands home and a seven o clock dinner at the Palace hotel.

Barrie Dougherty Sentenced for Worthless Check Charge

Barrie Michael Dougherty received one year at hard labor in a Montana state prison after a district court conviction on writing a worthless check. He was brought from Deer Lodge for trial on a year old warrant tied to Jackson White. Judge Ben Harwood presided in Judge Berg’s absence amid other court matters including probate for John Schiltz and a sale of personal property. Divorce proceedings were filed by Edna Blakeley Sanders against Armand Sanders.

DeNio Transfer Shifts Ranger R M DeNio to Gallatin Forest

J C Urquhart announces the transfer of R M DeNio from Main Boulder station Lewis and Clark forest to the Gallatin forest as assistant supervisor. DeNio replaces the vacancy caused by E E Redman’s promotion to Beaverhead supervisor. He has years of Montana forest service experience including Absaroka district ranger duties.

Reed Point Woman Dies In Fire

An 83-year-old Reed Point pioneer, Miss Mary Stritch, died in a house fire that destroyed her ranch home. Her brother Jack Stritch escaped. she reentered the flames, possibly to save belongings. Coroner Lowry transported the body to Big Timber for funeral plans in Reed Point.

Citizens Organize Education Committee in Sweet Grass County

A large crowd gathered at the courthouse for the formation of a Sweet Grass county citizens committee on education. Mrs. Scott Hoskinson presided as temporary speakers outlined aims to study proposed school legislation and select delegates for a March Helena meeting.

Lavolds celebrate sixtieth wedding anniversary at Otter Creek home

The Lavold family gathered at their Otter Creek residence on February 12 to honor Ben and his wife on their 60th wedding anniversary. Relatives from Melville country and visitors from Livingston attended despite weather. two missing daughters were noted. The couple shared memories of immigrating to Montana in 1886 and marriage in 1888, with a diamond cake and coffee served during the afternoon.

Services Held For A. J. Van Patten

Albert John Van Patten 83 died at the Christensen Home last Thursday. Funeral services were at Lowry chapel Monday with Rev. H. B. Tool officiating and music by Mrs. Ted C. Busha and Mrs. Mervin Sell. Burial was in Mountain View. Born in Canada February 2 1865 he came to Big Timber in 1918 and prospected locally. Surviving are a widow and two children Albert and Maggie. Efforts to locate them were unsuccessful. Also notes on a newborn son Kenneth Michael Sullivan born Feb 16 to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Sullivan of Hardin. mother Stella Sullivan in Hardin.

Lutheran Evangelist Rev. Allen V. Lee to Lead Services

Minneapolis evangelist Rev. Allen V. Lee will conduct evangelistic services at Big Timber Lutheran Church from Sunday February 29 through March 4 at 8 p.m. Lee, an infantile paralysis survivor, preaches from a wheelchair after earning a theology degree in 1941 and serving as an official Evangelical Lutheran church evangelist since 1945.
