Plea to Dog Owners Over Geese Losses in Sweet Grass County
A brief warns dogs roaming at night caused heavy losses of wild geese at Bob Elgas ranch on February 3. Geese species killed include Richardson's Canada geese, Pacific whitefronted geese, blue geese, snow geese, and a Muscovy duck, with one whitefronted goose missing. Breeding pairs of blue geese were decimated. no young geese will be produced this year. The notice urges owners to keep dogs home and prevent further destruction.

Roemer Appointed Timber Buyer for Rocky Mountain Co
Alban Roemer, retired forest ranger, is engaged as timber buyer for the Rocky Mountain Lumber Co. He is a professionally trained forester who previously worked in logging and pulpwood operations in Montana, Idaho and Wisconsin. He retired from the forest service in April 1958.

The Sheepherders drop to fourth in the standings after a 66 to 54 loss at Roundup. A poor third quarter for Big Timber doomed them as Roundup built leads of 18 to 15 at the first, 30 to 26 at the half, and 48 to 34 after three. Big Timber’s top scorers were Smart with 20, Ronneberg and Miller with 12 each. Riley led Roundup with 21. Free throws favored Roundup 16 to 8, field goals roughly even. The B squad also fell 46 to 67 at Clyde Park later.

Gervis William Hoofnagle a retired U S Fish and Wildlife employee died after a long illness in Durango Colorado February 2 Funeral services were held Saturday at the Lowry Chapel with Rev R R Price officiating Interment was at Mountain View He was born August 24 1886 in Fairfield Pennsylvania and married Alice Leasby October 10 1923 in Glendive He served 36 years with the U S Fish and Wildlife Service and was a World War I veteran He belonged to Charlevoix Michigan Masonic Lodge No 282 and the Durango Rock and Minerals Club He is survived by his wife two brothers and three nephews.
