Big Timber Montana residents hear the County Planning Board outline goals and objectives to guide future decisions. The Pioneer prints the full set for public visibility as district discussions continue. The article notes upcoming Herder basketball games and local events during February.
The City Council approved several ordinances including asbestos cement pipe rules for water main work and a 6 inch diameter. It extended the nomination filing for city judge, set a dog confinement referendum, and authorized fire hall door replacement at about 3700 dollars. The meeting noted no residents attended the revenue funds discussion and a trench opening may start a long term water plan.
Big Timber City Manager Gus Stroh says Montana Power will not be forced to share gas with eastern and mid western states. He asserts no direct gas pipeline links eastward and notes rising costs, increased electricity use, and Canada imports shape future prices.

Adult reserved passes cover all three nights cost 7.00. single night reserved at doors 2.00 Thursday 2.50 Friday and Saturday. General admission for all day sessions. Student season tickets 5.00. Game times afternoon 2 00 3 30 Sat morning 9 30 11 00 evening 7 00 8 30. Seeds set after this weeks games.
In the county primary Ray Esp held District 3’s seat with an estimated 336 unofficial votes. Opponent George Bud Hansen trailed, their write-in tally unresolved awaiting a county attorney ruling on name variations. Henthorn and Engle ran unopposed for District 1 and District Court clerk, with 451 and 421 votes respectively.
County planning staff invites public input on goals and Crazy Mountain planning policy through February 15. A special Planning Board working meeting is scheduled for 7 30 p m at the Court House to craft policy for the Crazy Mountain area. Residents near the Crazies were surveyed and many attended February 1 public meeting. consensus favored maintaining the status quo while minor changes to goals were approved.
Two Sweet Grass County High School seniors John O'Connell and Larry Field earned the All American Hall of Fame certificates from Purdue University Bands. The honor cites their self improvement and group advancement and will be kept on permanent Purdue records. Larry received the Bass Horn award and John the Percussion honor.
SGHS Board votes to release Principal Vance Ramberg Feb 21 with full pay to month’s end and to hire him as a $10 hourly consultant for transition. Ramberg will assist weekends and vacations for three months as Jim Graham may serve as acting principal.
Eight Sweet Grass 4 H members competed in Winter Fair Livestock Judging and Meats Identification in Bozeman on Saturday. Livestock judging awards went to Mary Myers gold Martha Fraser silver David Laubach bronze and Mardi Halvorson bronze. Meats contestants were Marlys Drange Terry Godfrey Georgina Drange silver and Stewart Drange bronze. The livestock team placed 4th in a 27 entries field amid strong state competition.
The filing deadline for certificates of nomination for city judge has been extended to 5 p.m. February 28. The extension applies only to the city judge position and follows an Attorney General opinion after the death of Rose Crockett, the sole prior filer. Certificates are available at City Hall.
