Boulder 4H Club Claims Lions Plaque At Recognition Day

The Boulder 4H club received permanent possession of the Lions Club plaque at the 4H Recognition Day held at the American Legion hall. Harold McLauchlan presented the plaque to club leader Mrs. Wright Ewan as Florence Yost missed the event. Florence Yost’s trip to the national 4H Congress was noted, along with 4-H scholarship winner Ellen Broughton.

District Governor to Speak to Lions in Big Timber Visit

Harold F. Anderson, district 37 A Lions International governor from Bridger, will visit Big Timber on Saturday February 11 for the Lions annual ladies night at the Legion hall. He will advise President Clem Stirn and others on administration and humanitarian service.

Conservationists Meet in Big Timber for Soil Guides

A two day meeting of soil conservationists opened at the Soil Conservation Service office in Big Timber to develop technical guides for Park Sweet Grass Meagher and Wheatland counties. Attendees include J W Turelle Lincoln Neb Washington field representative M D Burdick Bozeman D R Caulfield Bozeman Hill Rick Billings Wendell Thacker Lewistown George Hills Harlowton. The guides will aid local crews in planning applying and maintaining conservation practices based on soil water plant and wildlife resources. Sweet Grass surveys cover 362000 acres to reflect county soil variety.

Royal Neighbors Observe 55th Anniversary Celebration

About 80 people attended the Royal Neighbor party at Fraternity hall to mark the 55th anniversary. Three 50 year members were honored with corsages and histories of the organization and of the honorees were read. The program featured songs, readings, a pantomime, and door prizes with refreshments served.

About 180 friends attended a Sunday afternoon silver wedding reception for Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hanson at the Lutheran parish hall from 2 to 6. Rev. Sweet Grass County Blood Drive Exceeds Quota

Sweet Grass County surpassed its blood collection goal at Friday’s draw. Red Cross chair Mrs Tone Bristor reported eighty nine donors, with 72 successful, seven over the 65 unit quota. Staff and Junior Red Cross members assisted, while ice was supplied by the Big Timber unit and the American Leaugue.

At the county commissioners meeting Dr. L. W. Baskett was reappointed county physician for one year at $1000 annually and Dr. Vernon Standish as county health officer for one year at $600. Food shortage warned for U S within 40 years by district chair

Sweet Grass County Soil Conservation district chairman Rasmus Ree warned at the annual meeting that U S agriculture may fail to feed a growing population. He projected needs doubling by 2000 and urged conservation, efficient irrigation, soil and water management, and support services to maximize cropland use.

Mr and Mrs R H Eurich sold their ranch on the Sweet Grass west of Melville to Ralph E Fair Inc of Balcone Tex whose ranch adjoins it The Fair Corporation also owns the W D McKenzie ranch on the Yellowstone west of Big Timber The Eurichs and B L McNeal who has lived with them will move March 1 to Billings Wilbur Williams employed by the Eurichs bought the Ray L Traver place on the Boulder east of town Mrs Williams is a nurse at the Community hospital Mr and Mrs Eurich have resided on the ranch since 1938
