Yield signs set for 4th Avenue in Big Timber council meeting

Big Timber City Council approved planting Russian olive trees near the landfill as a barrier and planned yield signs for 4th Avenue to slow through traffic between Highway 10 and Hooper Street. They discussed an east side playground and a parking ordinance proposal to curb illegal U turns along McLeod Street.

Meeting on school Monday Bond proposal discussed at 8 p.m.

Residents of School District 1 are invited to a public meeting at 8 p.m. Monday at the school to discuss the proposed bond issue election set for March 2. Superintendent Ed ward Argenbright and trustees will be joined by Missoula architect Sheldon Witwer to answer questions about the building plan.

Collins to speak at MEA meeting in Big Timber

Former Sweet Grass High School principal Ray Collins Jr. will address Big Timber MEA members at 4 p.m. on February 13 at the high school. Now principal of Billings Senior High, he will discuss Trends in Education from the Administrator's Point of View.

Land use debate grows as agriculture weighs in

Sweet Grass County Conservation District vice chairman Franklin Grosfield warned the land use bill scene is only starting and that agricultural interests must help write the rules. He praised district and preservation group work while noting concerns over scattered state agency regulation and potential regulatory delays impacting farming.

Incumbents File for Re election in County Races

Clerk and Recorder Margaret Plaggemeyer reports that Commissioner Bjarne Bjornda and Superintendent Edith Harper filed papers and paid fees on Friday bringing total filing officials to three after Assessor Marvin Barber also paid fees last week. Sheriff Kenneth Thompson and Justice of the Peace Rose Crockett plan to seek re election while Mrs Plaggemeyer and County Attorney Conrad Fredricks undecided. Others not seeking re election include Justice of the Peace Michelle Carroccia and County Treasurer Margaret Busha. Coroner Dean Lowry said he would not run. Nomination petitions are due by 5 pm April 25 with filings in the clerk and recorder's office.
