After Santa's visit and a Lions Club toy handout, Jayceens publish a collection of letters from local children. The notes reveal wishes for dolls, toys, books, bikes, guns, and sewing machines, with many expressing good behavior and gratitude.
A padlock was pried from a storage building with nothing missing. A resident reported Christmas light bulbs stolen from an outdoor decorated tree. A woman sought assistance for an assault disturbance and was advised to file with the County Attorney. Plane noise with no crash was investigated and cleared. A tourist lost a suitcase between Big Timber and Livingston. notification requested if found. Two trucks clipping mirrors on a narrow bridge led to Highway Patrol referral. A rancher reported theft of money from a billfold. Two accidents on icy roads near Reed Point and Boulder Bridge caused damage and minor injuries.
Requiem high mass for Mrs. Marie M. Neumayer 178 was celebrated Saturday at St. Marys Catholic Church Livingston with Rev. Patrick A. Moran officiating. Burial followed in Calvary Cemetery. Neumayer, born September 7, 1891 in Wollerau Switzerland, died December 16 in Livingston. She and husband George ranched in Sweet Grass County before moving to Livingston in 1931 where he worked for the State Highway Department. She is survived by a sister Anne Mathes and a brother Carl Bachman among others. she belonged to St. Marys Church and its Altar Society.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mike Hoyem age 80 were held Monday at the Big Timber Lutheran church with Rev. Eugene Nilsen officiating. Pallbearers included Victor Tronrud Jr and Keith Gottlob. Interment followed at Mountain View. Mrs. Hoyem was born February 11, 1889 in Howie Montana and lived in Butte Melville Silver Gate and finally Big Timber area with her husband Mike Hoyem. Survivors include her husband and two sisters in California.
Funeral services for Lillian Nepstad Johnson 71 will be held Friday at 2 00 p m from the Chapel of the Chimes Great Falls with interment in the mausoleum. The daughter of Oscar Nepstad she was born July 12 1898 in Highland Minnesota and lived in Grey Cliff Big Timber Havre Melville Billings Bozeman Kalispell and Mesa Arizona. Survivors include two sons Dave and Leigh one step daughter Helen Langston a brother Jim Nepstad and several grandchildren. A memorial was set for Emmanuel Lutheran Home Kalispell.
Red Lodge uses a press to beat Big Timber 91 69 in the championship. Rosary defeats Belgrade 72 52 in the consolation game. Opening round Red Lodge 78 53 over Rosary and Big Timber 82 63 over Belgrade. Tom Schrupp led Rosary with 33 tournament points. Jay Banogorsky scored 29 for Red Lodge.
Postmaster Harold McLauchlan announced to the Pioneer that for the first time in Big Timber history there will be no mail distribution on Christmas day. No arriving mail, no outgoing sorting, and postal employees will enjoy a day with their families after the busy season.
The Montana State Department of Public Health with the Big Timber Jayceens and Woman's Club will run a free hearing clinic at Big Timber Public School on Tuesday January 6 and at Sweet Grass County High School on Wednesday January 7. Dr. Richard S. Crolyn will conduct tests and refer those who fail screening for threshold testing.
Floyd Earl Woodard 66 a retired Reed Point cattleman and wheat rancher died Thursday at Stillwater Community hospital after a nine month stay. Funeral services were conducted Monday at Smith's Chapel with Rev. Robert Strutz officiating. Burial followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers included Floyd Ferguson Helmuth Marlow Bill Golden John Ott Owen McKeith and George Swindler. He was born September 22 1903 in Tina Missouri and moved to Broadview in 1917. He married Fern B. Coleman on March 9 1940 in Billings and is survived by his widow a brother and a sister.
Judge and Mrs Lyman Moulden expect a holiday reunion as relatives converge for the season. Mrs Robert Bruce Lawrence from San Francisco travels with her son and daughter-in-law, plus baby Robert. Dick Moulden from Canoga Park joins his parents Bob and Mrs Moulden and brother Phil. This marks the first all-family gathering in years and the first look at the great grandson.
Mr and Mrs Richard Hanson and their son and daughter in law are to arrive after the first of the year from Brunswick Georgia. He was discharged after four years service with the U S Navy and will ranch with his father at the Hanson ranch.
Earl Friend age 39 died Sunday morning at University Hospital in Salt Lake City Utah. Funeral services are set for Saturday December 27 at 2 p m at the Evangelical church Reed Point with burial in Reed Point cemetery to follow.
Big Timber improved with wins over Absarokee 89 68 and Columbus 71 39 as all twelve players scored. Kelly Goosey led with 20 points in the Absarokee game and Bill Buster 19 rebounds in the Columbus win. Rick Henthorn and Craig Bonnarens also produced strong scoring and rebounding in both nights.
