Funeral service for William Po haten Summers was held at Lowry chapel Sunday at 2 PM Rev Claire L Harris preached. Interment at Mountain View cemetery with pallbearers W H Langford Milo Collins George Meyers Clifton Booth Carl Smith Walter Lamb. Summers died Friday night at Nils Petersen home after influenza developed into bronchial pneumonia. Born Warren Missouri November 23 1867 he lived in Montana since 1914. Survivors include two daughters Mrs W H Langford and Mrs Milo Collins Reed Point a sister Mrs Ann Ketter Des Moines and stepson Carl Smith Billings.

Funeral services were held in White Sulphur Springs for Charles Mixer 82 a pioneer of Montana who began as an ox freighter between Fort Benton and Billings in 1882 Born in East Knox Maine in 1857 he came to Montana in 1882 He married Marie Kinyon in 1884 and the couple lived in White Sulphur Springs until 1909 Survivors include six children 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren

Nineteen Boy Scouts skipped school Friday to camp overnight at the ranger station in Big Timber. Ed Franklin drove a truck carrying beds and gear with scouts riding on top. Tents rose under firs while hikes explored canyon slopes and beaver ponds. Some returned with greens and Christmas trees.

Winnie Ruth Judd was captured in a Yuma drug store and rushed back toward Phoenix after a long desert trek in stocking feet. The escaped killer, apprehended by a policeman, claimed to fear being returned to the state hospital for the insane. In her purse were two letters to Governor Bob Jones and to lawmakers.

Basin Wyoming December 14 Judge P W Metz denounces the slot machine racket and dismisses charges against Dewey Joseph Finch in a break in case. He calls slot machines unlawful stating owners are bigger criminals than thieves and urges saloon crime to be attributed to gambling devices. He would not imprison Finch for the alleged theft.

West Coast summer fires set regional record
The West saw 17,216 grass and forest fires across Oregon Washington California Idaho Montana and British Columbia this year, a new regional record. Smokers ranked behind lightning as a fire cause, and California suffered the most with 7,674 fires burning 649,348 acres. The report was presented to the western forestry and conservation commission by Thomas H. Burgess of the U S forest service.

Creditors of the Merchants Bank will receive their final payments during visits by Santa Claus on Monday and Tuesday December 18 and 19. George Graff, liquidating agent, will distribute checks totaling 16864.95. Since closing, nearly 200000 has been paid to depositors, about 7.31 percent of claims.

Winnecook Ranch Loses Hay by Fire
A blaze starting in a locomotive spark burned about 15 acres on the Winnecook ranch last Sunday destroying 3 large stacks of hay before Ranch Manager Mr. Martin and staff contained it. A prior fire two weeks earlier burned around 50 acres but spared hay. Dry weather and high winds kept prairie fires hazardous as stockmen plow firebreaks and warn against weed fires and careless trash fires amid record losses.

A. G. Mc Naught Roundup attorney appealed to Governor Roy E. Ayers to spare Lee Simpson Ryegate rancher from the gallows on December 30. Bailey Hardware Discovers Early Ox Yokes from Deer Creek
Eystein Birkeland of Grey Cliff found a dark red painted ox yoke at Bailey hardware, a relic from Jacob Hohenbarger’s ranch on Deer creek. Hohenbarger arrived in Montana in 1873 from Indiana, ran ten yoke of oxen, later switched to mules, and died on a Deer creek ranch after 1892.

Gardiner plans an All Montana Day dinner for U S senators and guests arranged by the Gardiner Commercial club led by Senator B K Wheeler. The menu will include elk from Gardiner and foods from across Montana including flour from Great Falls potatoes from Fairview carrots from Miles City and copper plates from Butte.
