Forest Ranger John Inman reminds the public of Christmas tree rules on National Forest land. Each household may cut two trees free without a permit. more trees require a permit starting at five dollars. Transport limits apply under Montana law. group transport should ride together. Trees must meet size and distance rules and should not be cut near roads, home sites, or in plantations unless thinning. Cutting on National Forest land is a privilege that can be lost if abused.
