A Clayton Bloomer family from Kent Washington thanks local readers for help after a November crash near Big Timber. Debbie remains in a cast but improving. Clayton’s head and chin healing. Stevie also recovering. The letter ends with appreciation for community kindness.
A long wedding piece narrates a couple proposing to swap homes six months to bridge rural urban divides. It details their plans, the wedding party, attire, and a reception at the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority house with notes on attendants and gifts as part of the pageantry.
Wilma Jean Tuttle won first place in the Jaycee sponsored Voice of Democracy finals at the high school. A $25 war bond prize was donated by Montana Power and Home Telephone. Donna Green and John Drividahl took second and third with $15 merchandise certificates.
The marriage of Carol Ruth Price of Big Timber and Carl Gordon Dowrey of Middle Town Ohio was performed at St. James Episcopal Church in Bozeman on November 21. The bride, given in marriage by George S. Durland of Hamilton, wore the double ring ceremony as her father Rev Richard Price officiated with maid of honor Janet Price.
Leo S. Kolstad of the state ASC urges wool producers to keep detailed sales documents when selling shorn wool or unshorn lambs. Documents should show seller and buyer details, sale date, weight or liveweight, net proceeds, and sale location. Applications for 1956 incentive payments are now available at local ASC offices.
Thirty seven rural high school boys gathered in the gym for a two hour session last Sunday extending the weekly practice. Coaches McCauley Cameron Stokke MacDonald directed grades from 1st to 8th with drills, scrimmages, and supervision as cheerleaders performed on the sidelines and parents watched. Dr Standish provided physical checkups before the final practice, and organizers hope snowy weather won’t reduce turnout.
Janet Fraser of Reed Point Montana captured the junior grand champion with her Hereford steer Pejce at the 1956 Golden Spike National Livestock Show in Ogden Utah. The winning animal sold to Hotel Utah for 25 cents a pound, higher than last year, as 4H projects and breeding stock drew wide praise. Carroll Walton of Akron Colorado showed the reserve champion steer bringing 85 cents a pound.
The Moose lodge joins the Operation Santa Claus campaign to gather new or used toys in presentable condition. Community members can donate during December 8 through 15 at the Moose club or designated collection centers such as Big Timber Bak.
SGHS Juniors present the play “We Shook the Family Tree” December 10 and 11 at 8 p.m. in the high school gym. The production, adapted by Christopher Sergeb from Hildegard Dolson, features Elizabeth Steensland and a cast including Martin Drivdahl, Steven Nelson, Marion Beley, Elda Westervelt, John Drivdahl, Gerald Scholten, Carolyn Dahl, Carl Patterson, Cheryll Nevin, Sharon McKenzie and Claudia Dodds. Proceeds aid needy children with any surplus going to children’s institutions.
A public meeting last month formed a temporary nonprofit group to lease Sweet Grass Community hospital. Karl Bryan was chosen president with Wright Ewan as vice president C. W. Poe secretary E. A. Bieber treasurer and Mrs W K Amery as fifth member. They will serve until the annual meeting in January when a permanent board is elected. The corporation is approved and a certificate of incorporation issued.
Postmaster Harold McLauchlan urges passable labeling and proper postage to ensure on time delivery by Christmas. He advises using zone numbers and three cent stamps, including return addresses, and recommends mailing out of town cards by December 10 while local mail should begin a week prior.
The Big Timber Sheepherders beat Worden 86 to 53 on Friday, then lost 85 to 62 to Roundup on Saturday. Berg led with 24 for Roundup, while Hauge 16 and Lomeland 11 paced Big Timber. The B squad defeated Roundup 61 to 30.
John Hager sells his Hager Motor Sales farm implement business to Walt Huffman who has taken possession. The operation features John Deere machinery and a snow building on Highway 10 in the east part of town. Huffman also runs Sky Flight, Inc.
Hugo Golfi of Red Lodge district 37A Lions International explained district setup and highlighted the Miami convention. He noted district 37 includes Alberta Canada Montana with four sub districts and 37A eastern Montana from Havre to West Yellowstone. About 50 000 attended the convention. the flag ceremony featured national flags with Lions clubs presented by country youths and sailors, as a band played each nation’s anthem.
