Montana Officials Debate Weed Law At 1963 Meeting

At a 1963 National Association of County Commissioners gathering in Lewistown Montana delegates discussed a proposed uniform weed law. The plan would create state weed boards and county weed districts, regulate weed seeds in imports and agricultural materials, and set enforcement and funding mechanisms. Opponents from the University of Montana Forestry School and the Montana Grain Growers Association warned the bill could harm lands and eco systems while failing to meet practical land use needs.
