President Roosevelt Urges Broad Federal Reform Agenda

Congress read President Roosevelt’s message outlining federal control of interstate corporations, a national incorporation act, reform of the Sherman Act, currency legislation, tariff policy after the next election, and repealing Wood Pulp tariffs. He calls for inland waterways development, irrigation, mining bureau, eight hour workday, compulsory arbitration, stronger navy, and public lands reform. He notes Panama Canal progress, Alaska and territories, parcel post, postal savings, and income taxes. Rocky Mountains lands proposal allocates 100000 dollars for Fort Peck survey and allotment.

Senator Dixon Proposes Montana Mining and Homestead Revisions

Senator Dixon has introduced bills extending mining law provisions to the Bitter Root valley and amending the homestead act to apply to lands in Montana east of the main range. The measures aim to adjust land and mineral rights in the region.

Young Sanford Bennett Dies After Horse Incident

Coroner J A Mulkern investigated a Stillwater Valley death of 15 year old Sanford Bennett. While moving camp supplies, Bennett was unseated from a horse which dragged him after becoming frightened. The boy died from a crushed skull and multiple fractures. He was buried in Columbus after the inquest was deemed unnecessary.
