Butte November 20 1824 Edward Farren foreman of the Anaconda mine Joseph Sullivan assistant foreman John G Downey shift boss and Dan D Crowley mine rescue foreman were presented with 250 checks by W B Daly manager of mines for heroic service during a September 19 1924 fire at the 1400 foot level powder magazine They carried burning powder from the blaze and extinguished the fire risking their lives all four men received similar letters of appreciation noting long service with the company Farren 22 years Sullivan 24 Downey 15 and Crowley 20 years in their respective posts
