Thanksgiving updates from Red Lodge and nearby towns describe many local families hosting gatherings at ranches and homes. Names include Esther Marian Stenberg born in Columbus, visits by Dr. Vernon Standish and family, and exiles to Great Falls and Minnesota for holidays and medical care.
A county wide program on mental retardation is set for Friday at 8:00 p.m. in the county courthouse court room. Dr John Alexander of the Big Timber Lions Club will preside with speaker Mrs Eric Anderson MSU head of laboratory nursery school. The discussion will cover the state plan and opportunities for mentally retarded individuals in the community.
C A Caulkins Jr prominent architect and civic leader died of a heart attack in Santa Rosa California on November 22 he had practiced architecture for 32 years designing schools churches and junior college buildings He is survived by Grace his widow son Kenneth Caulkins brother Dr C C Caulkins and sister Mrs Jessica Moore funeral services were held in Santa Rosa on November 29.
William Wise Frank Kinney Jack Timpo and Leonard Norris of Billings forfeited 25 dollar bonds on trespass charges preferred by T M Burkholder.
Mrs Alban Roemer died at Community hospital after a long illness. Funeral services were held at Lowry Chapel and burial followed in Mountain View. Survivors include her husband a son Joseph and siblings.
A film titled A Place Under the Sun was shown at the Big Timber Lions club meeting at Frye's Cafe. Dick Josephson presented the documentary produced by American Title Assn. It warned of pitfalls in house hunting and the steps to secure peaceful home ownership, earning a top economics documentary award.
The Sweet Grass County Wool growers Association hosts its annual meeting Friday December 4 at the Legion hall starting with a noon luncheon. Speakers include S Keith Anderson Montana Taxpayers Assn executive vice president and J L Van Horn Montana State College animal science professor. Henry Esp Montana Woolgrowers Assn state president plans to attend and hear about local activities.
Mrs Inez Mendenhall Jarrett daughter of a local pioneer family and wife of an early rancher is highlighted in a Sun Day Billings Gazette feature. California bound Thorval Olsen and his wife depart to visit their son David in Riverside and daughter Diane in Los Angeles before the Christmas holiday with Mrs Earl Lacey in Orville California.
Nearly 10 inches of snow fell with a chinook Sunday night, followed by warm winds through Tuesday morning. Temperatures cooled to below freezing, and most snow melted into dry ground that resisted further freezing.
Charles Tug Wilson, a carpenter, died unexpectedly Monday evening in White Sulphur Springs where he had lived for years. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon in White Sulphur Springs.
The Sweet Grass Sheepherders defeated White Sulphur Springs 46 to 44 to win the Harlowton Thanksgiving tournament. Big Timber and Huntley were runners up, with Big Timber claiming third. Key players included Simmons, Paulson, and Knight, while fouling and free throws framed the close final.
