City Council witnessed Animal Control Officer Terry Johnston respond to a husky like dog brought by Sylvia and John Drivdah after it chased yard rabbits. Johnston noted nine city complaints about loose dogs and outlined licensing gaps with 99 of 300 dogs licensed. Plans were made to remind owners to license.
Sweet Grass County residents may donate blood at the Blood Services of Billings Bloodmobile on Wednesday, August 31, from noon to 3 p.m. on the Legion Club lower floor. Art Sell organized the stop to help local patients needing surgery or treatment in Billings.
The Renewable Alternative Energy Program RAEP funded by 2.5 percent of the state coal tax seeks applicants for grants to develop renewables. Administered by DNRC in Helena since 1976 RAEP has funded 30 projects totaling 490 000 mostly for solar. Two submission periods yearly Jan 1 Feb 15 and July 1 Aug 15. Sweet Grass County Commissioners will hold a public hearing September 8 at 2 00 p m in the courthouse on petitions by property owners outside Big Timber seeking a rural fire district. The filing cites state law, insurance rating goals, state land-fire cooperation, mutual aid, and firefighter retirement as reasons, with no tax increase expected. Gallatin and Lewis and Clark National Forests schedule a public meeting with Gene Hawkes and Ken Weyers at 7 00 p m August 29 at the Livingston City Council Complex to explain lease applications covering 90000 acres and to collect public input while they prepare a joint environmental analysis for surface management.
The Chamber of Commerce meeting formed two new committees Industrial Development and Health Planning with chairs McLean Clark and Barbara Schilling respectively. Olaf Brekke's foundation donation of 150.38 for civic improvement was accepted. Members John Baird Dale Oberly Conrad Fredricks Gwen Peterson and Dr Susann Steinberg joined or will assist. A by laws report and charter membership added, next meeting Sept 15 at Fryes.
Alton Rucker claims the vehicle in Margaret Busha's bear picture is a 1914 or 1915 Mitchell with large wheels. He recalls a Geraldine-area family owning one. daughter Shirley Bothman conveyed his message.
Five thousand lambs were sold last Wednesday in a mixed in person and telephone bid auction. The Sam Etchetegary Livestock Co of California purchased the stock, with R H Rock handling bidding. The $47.12 per hundredweight price, down from last year, is expected to sustain buyer activity as deliveries are planned from mid September to mid October.
The Pioneer reminds residents of a city drive to license all dogs as required by Ordinance 8.08. Unlicensed owners have faced violations since April but a grace period offers license procurement at Big Timber Veterinary Clinic. Rabies inoculation proof is required to obtain licenses.
The Mid Yellowstone Areawide Planning Organization plans a public meeting in Big Timber on August 30 1977 at 7 30 p m to gather input on the Water Quality Plan before final draft. Five county input rounds are under way in Big Horn Carbon Stillwater Sweet Grass and Yellowstone counties as negotiations seek partial funding. Public Law 92 500 mandates plan implementation and local funding may keep it regional.
City Hall announces no lawn watering next Wednesday in Big Timber due to reservoir draining and cleaning. All residents must refrain regardless of house numbers to lower the reservoir level, as Aug. 31 is designated an odd extra day and fair to all.
Sweet Grass County rural schools plan a full day on August 29 to begin the new term. Teachers will attend Fall Workshops in Columbus on August 28 hosted by the Office of Public Instruction. New staffing changes place Mrs. Marie Chapel as the sole McLeod teacher and Mrs. Lynn Shafer as the new upper grade instructor at Grey Lif.
