Drowning Tragedy Near North Bay Claims Six
Albert Lafrenier and wife with two children and a friend set out on Lake Nipissing aboard a gasoline jaunter. A fuel ignition caused a sheet of flame and explosion throwing all into the water. Lafrenier could not keep his babies and swam to shore with them, but had to release them as the blaze raged. Rescue efforts failed to recover all victims. only Leoni Sylvestre’s body was later found unable to be recovered.

One Of Earliest Pioneers Passes Away
William B. McAdow an early Montana pioneer who arrived in 1863 at Bannack and 1864 at Bozeman died August 10 in Santa Barbara California at age 88. He helped start Gallatin county’s first flour mill in 1865 with brother Perry and Thomas Cover. He later held public offices in Gallatin and lived in Emigrant Gulch Bend Oregon and Santa Barbara. He is survived by his widow two sons Perry and Louis five grandchildren and three sisters.

Fires Hold On Eight Miles Of Clearwater Trench Lines
Eight miles of fire trenches along the Johanagan mountain fire on the Clearwater forest in northern Idaho held Thursday with the blaze confined to about 300 acres after a three day advance. The Doris Creek fire spread slightly at over 130 acres with 40 men fighting it. Patrol teams took charge of the Lost Horse blaze on the Bitter Root, which burned over 189 acres. No casualties reported among sheep herds as a freak wind change aided protection efforts.
