Escape attempt foiled as bloodhounds track prisoner
John English, a convict on the Park-to-Park road crew near Gardiner, left his camp at 8 pm and wandered toward Livingston. Bloodhounds tracked him to the Emigrant schoolhouse and he was recaptured at 1 am, returning to Livingston for jail time on jail breaking charges. English had six months left to serve and says companions doubted hounds’ ability to track escaped prisoners. The incident may deter other inmates among about fifty workers from further attempts.

Convicts Improve Yankee Jim Canyon Highway in Park County
A group of fifty Deer Lodge convicts has started road work in Park County per Livingston Post reports cited by County Commissioner Lashorn.
