Bad check artists target eastern Montana in Big Timber
Big Timber residents were alerted to a check fraud case likely tied to a regional gang. A man using two counterfeit checks for 17.50 passed funds at local stores, with authorities pursuing him as a six-foot-tall suspect seen in a brown hat and tan coat. A Utah-bound suspect woman is also in custody, with extradition pending.

State Highway Commission Lets Contract for Sweet Grass Road

Charles L. Bryan Early Resident Dies At Home
Charles L. Bryan a longtime Park and Sweet Grass counties resident since 1883 died at his Big Timber area home Sunday morning after a day of work. Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Congregational church with burial at Mountain View in Boulder. He was born July 13 1862 at Philadelphia Missouri and moved west with a life as a cowboy and farmer. Survivors include Margaret Bryan three sons three daughters two sisters and a brother with eleven grandchildren.

Thomas Noble of Big Elk Dies in Winnipeg at 67
Obituary notes Thomas Noble founder of Big Elk store and postmaster, born Inverness 1847, died July 11 in Winnipeg while visiting his son John Noble. Survived by three of eight children, his life spanned Scotland to Montana frontier, with ties to Twodot and Big Elk. Burial planned in Gravette Arkansas for daughter Mrs Joseph Bethard.

Deputy Sheriff Arthur Osborne was shot and killed at Pine Bluff Wyoming while attempting to arrest a man who gave the name Snodgrass. The suspect had cashed a stolen traveler's check in Buffalo Kansas and fled with a woman in a large coupe with trunks. Osbourne left a widow and four children. authorities chase him across eastern Wyoming and western Nebraska as they connect him to a Buffalo bank robbery case from December 1926.
