Helena July 31. Montana state police report shows speeding and reckless driving caused most of automobile accidents from Jan 1 to June 30, with more than a third of 59 fatalities due to excessive speed or reckless driving. Drunken driving ranked low. Only three of the 59 fatal mishaps were due to defective equipment. Intoxicated drivers figured in six deaths, another listed as had been drinking. Three hundred two injuries occurred in nonfatal crashes.
