Prison hires new psychologist under work study program
The prison brings in a new clinical psychologist, Fichtler, through a federally funded work study plan to provide inmates with psychological services. Fichtler, a New Jersey native with degrees from Hartford Seminary Overland University and Columbia, previously served in the Army and as a church minister. He aims to aid inmate adjustment and reduce recidivism through group therapy and individual counseling while researching inmate attitudes toward themselves. He envisions Montana leading in this field and notes the critical 60 day post release period.
