Marine Flyer Survives 32 Days At Sea And Jungle
Sergeant William Coffeen Jr of the marine corps flying unit recounts a 32 day ordeal after a mission off Guadalcanal. He parachuted, survived storms and shark encounters, lived on coconuts, and was later cared for by native villagers before rescue by a navy plane. He arrived at a native village on May 15 and recovered from malaria and malnutrition at a naval base hospital.
