Trail Drivers of Texas Memorial Aims At San Antonio Site
Longtime Texas cattlemen form Old Trail Drivers Association to fund a memorial in San Antonio. President George W. Saunders leads efforts after a 1995 meeting to raise $50,000 locally and $50,000 from elsewhere, to honor the era that moved 9.8 million cattle and 1 million horses via the Chisholm Trail. The movement culminates in a planned museum and a tribute book, The Trail Drivers of Texas, edited by J. Marvin Hunter, praised for preserving authentic cross-state history.
