The Congregational church announces a week in September with Sunday School at 10 and preaching at 11 in Marbleton. An evening service follows at 8. In Marbleton there is Sunday school at 2 P M and preaching at 3 P M led by Rev. Geo F Wenrich, pastor.
Sunday 17 services at 11 and 845 with Sunday school at 10 am. Choir rehearsal on 19. Ember Days observance September 22 with services 8 am and 745 pm. Feast of St Matthew on September 21 with services 8 am and 745 pm. Guild gathering at 2 30 at Mrs Dan i.
The National Order of Cowboy Rangers expands in Big Piney with Dr. J. W. Hook aiding work in the territory. A Woodmen Hall gathering secured enough members to assure a ranch, with another meeting hoped soon. The fraternal group honors pioneers and notes large ranches in Denver and other cities with prominent Western members.
Miss Dewey Haddenham and Hershel Bondurant married at Midway last Monday by Justice George Durnford. Families of pioneer residents Mr. and Mrs. John Haddenham and Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Bondurant attended. C Watt Brandon, Frank Curtis, and Lawrence Holland arrived in Piney in a 1917 Studebaker Six for the celebration. Brandon became county Republican central committee chair, Holland the Democratic secretary, Curtis the Studebaker agent.
Readable results from a valley roundup show Pinto belonging to Mrs Art Doyle of Pinedale winning the men's quarter mile dash with Orlin Black's horse second. Robin owned by Henry Budd wins the ladies quarter mile ahead of Orlin Black's Trav eler. Hileman's Prince Albert and Lizzie McLean win the free for all quarter mile. Alf Rose of North Bend shows roping skill. Several riders earn praise for steer work. Ralph Mills leads the men's relay. ladies relay not held. Bucking and wild horse events draw entries and mixed outcomes.
On Wednesday evening September 30 Congressman F W Mondell will tour the western part of the state and speak on national issues. Miss Edith K O Clark state superintendent of public instruction is in the Valley for the celebration and will attend the rally. A free dance follows and all are invited. Episcopal Church to feature special anthems Sunday at 8 15 with Miss Perkins singing Save Me O God and Mr Rose performing Oh Loving Father.
Riders Henry Hittle Jimmy Bertram Billy Carr Lou Snider Rowley E F Spencer Paul Munson Chatham Billy White Jim Wilson and Dutch Daniels were entered. Daniels won the event with Snyder and White close behind. Billy Steele staged an exhibition on the Mc Laughlin milk cow from Pine dale using a fur single, which loosened after about the thirtieth jump causing a fall. Attendance reached about 300.
Merna residents report a busy week with neighbors and relatives visiting. Local haying progresses with yields reportedly three times last year, as Clifford Stults and others prep timothy and alfalfa. A light snow hints at approaching winter while outings and trips to Fall River and Piney mark seasonal activity.
Ace Pitnet D. and C. P. McGlashan returned from a state trip while the district starts with a large enrollment. Next week Mr Bennett begins music instruction as the school plans for a forenoon schedule to allow attendance at an afternoon celebration. Ralph Bugher’s auto was taken by an employee of Al Osterhout and later recovered after a warrant was issued and costs paid. Miss Ursula Tanner and Cornelia O’Neil left for Laramie to attend the University.
