Feed Grinding For Small Pigs Not Economical

Dick Carlisle of the Illinois College of Agriculture states that pigs under 180 pounds chew their feed so efficiently that grinding seldom saves enough feed to cover grinding costs. For hogs above 150 pounds grinding saves about five percent of the corn, and if grinding 100 pounds costs less than five pounds in value it pays to grind for hogs over 150 pounds.
