The Big Piney Commercial Club is urged to mobilize resources for hay grain and vegetable crops. It calls for space for mineral and agricultural displays and a committee to attract settlers, assist with ordinances, and market local produce to grow Big Piney and Green River valley.
Freighters are asked to keep off the auto road which is badly cut up and deeply rutted, hindering autos. The road was surveyed, built and kept in repair by private enterprise and belongs to the builders.
Government estimates on October 1 show Wyoming yields per acre for spring wheat at 25 bushels, oats at 39, and barley at 25. Kansas yields 8.5 bushels for wheat, Iowa oats at 34.6, and lows barley near 25, with Wyoming prices hovering around 59 to 60 cents per bushel. The figures suggest Wyoming may fare better than some peers if conditions hold.
The firm of F A Pear and Son sold out their entire stock to Frank Burney who will run the business at the old stand. Fear’s ranching duties led to the transfer while Burney continues the same lines and merchandise. The Nichols ranch doctor’s office building moves to the store lot to become a dwelling for Mr and Mrs Burney. Burney, a long time local, is expected to command a fair share of the trade.
About 4000 acres of cattle ranch land in Midway area offered from the estate of the deceased Rody Thornton. Prospective buyers are invited to inspect. sale conducted by Stephen Hulse, Daniel Wyoming, or George Thornton. Midway, Wyoming.
A. W. Smith company has been hired to rebuild the Green River bridge at the Mule Shoe ranch replacing the long closed structure. The project calls for three forty foot spans on pilings to bedrock with heavy planking to withstand high water. Damaged remaining sections will be repaired and cabled planked. The bridge serves the valley and will restore access.
George O Neal, a fifteen year old orphan staying with Steve Daniels for six weeks, fell from a lumber wagon near South Piney Monday. The wagon ran over him, crushing jaws and bruising him severely with possible internal injuries. He was rushed to Kemmerer Hospital by Bugher auto after Daniels transported him from the ranch Wednesday morning.
Judge David H. Craig of Hawkins will preside in Kemmerer on October 27 for a special district court session. Forty six naturalization petitions are filed, with a Denver U.S. government representative likely in attendance. Civil actions, several criminal cases, and a likely weeklong session are expected with no jury being panelled.
The Office of the Custodian in Cheyenne notes receipt of five large potatoes weighing seven and a half pounds from W E Mills Sr on North Piney near Green River valley. The potatoes represent local produce and the custodian invites further exhibit samples to showcase the region.
Weekly stock report from Wood-De wald-Childs Co of Omani Nebraska shows 25700 cattle receipts this week, 2000 below last week and 6000 under last year, with overall market easing. Prices steady to slightly lower on most cattle as buyers push for reductions, noting lighter receipts today and mixed beef grade trends and range cattle from Wyoming selling well.
Geo Durnford has completed the first brick house in Big Piney and will move his family in this week. The fret brick from Piney gives a neat appearance and serves as a temporary abode on the same lot. He plans a second house to start soon and hopes to finish before Christmas using his whole foreest work.
A pleasant house warming and dance celebrated the completion of the new residence of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. McGinnis in LaBarge. The well attended event drew representatives from nearby communities including Big Pipey, Mr. and Mrs. Join Budd, Miss Batholoy, Goodwin, Carpenter, Mark Twitchel and George Guyette.
