Java sugar supply uncertain amid US civilian needs
No definite information on how 1 600 000 tons found in Java will reach the United States or when. Chester Bowles says the Dutch will likely retain 500 000 tons for themselves and sale terms for the rest are unknown. The balance may be allocated by a food board, with first shipments not expected before year’s end. Civilian allocations cannot change until then.

Meat Preparation Guidelines for Back and Shoulder Cuts
Separate thick back and shoulder muscles from the thin ribs and flank. Small game such as rabbits should be skinned dressed washed and chilled promptly. Only the thick back and hindquarters are usually frozen to save locker space. Ribs neck and foot legs can be stewed while fresh for best advantage. There is 35 litre protective fat on small game meat so it should be wrapped well to guard against dehydration in locker storage.
