Memorial service for Malcolm L. Budd, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Budd, who died in Korea, will be held at the Community Church on Wednesday October at 7 30 with Dr Arthur Fauntly and the American Legion assisting.
Wyoming Governor A G Crane proclaims October 1 to 7 as Employ the Physically Handicapped Week. The measure urges recognition and aid for physically impaired citizens through restoration training and selective job placement, amid wartime defense efforts.
Thousands of alumni descend on the University of Wyoming as the 1950 Homecoming Weekend begins. A queen will be crowned at the Homecoming Sing, where three new fight songs debut. Prizes of 100 000, 560 and 40 will be awarded to contest winners. Events include cross country at Corbett Field, Linz contest, a parade on Ivins on avenue, a reunion luncheon for 1925 and 1940 alums, the Wyoming vs Colorado Aggies football game at 1 30, and an alumni reception and Homecoming Dance.
Ovara's livestock market surged with Western cattle and calves leading the charge. Cattle and stockers traded near record highs with steers, yearlings, and heifers posting solid gains while hogs and sheep showed mixed but robust demand. Several local buyers, including W. J. Alexander, moved stock through the Omaha shippers circuit.
Sealed bids are invited for reconstruction of six miles of drift fence south of Big Piney Wyoming. Bids will be accepted at the local Bureau of Land Management office in Pinedale Wyoming. Interested parties may submit bids.
Range Manager Ivan C. Vickers announces bids open at 10 AM Friday October 13 1950. Bureau reserves right to refuse any and all bids. Plans to attend the annual 4 H Club Bull Sale and Show in Big Piney on October 17 are urged.
Big Piney hosts a 4-H and FFA Bull Show and Sale on October 17 with 48 bulls in single lots. Show starts 10 00 am sale at 1 00 pm bulls arrive by 9 00 am Tony Fethauer judges three age groups prizes to top two in each class top six bulls compete for Grand Champion and Reserve Champion cups from State Bank of Big Piney and Joe Budd lunch by the Bis Piney Future Farmers. Also fire prevention week urged with tips on reducing rural losses and steps to improve safety lines on prevention weekOctober 8 14.
The Sarasoga and Encampment Valley Hereford Association announces its 11th Annual Range Bull Show and Sale to be held in Rawlins Wyoming in October. This event features breeding bulls, sale catalogs, and judging by local cattlemen.
The 1950 state hunting orders set open seasons for Lincoln unit elk from Oct 5 to Oct 15 with exceptions for Big Piney and Greys River. Special permits cover moose and mountain sheep in various subareas, while Salt River and Greys River feeds ground have restricted dates or closures. Deer season runs Oct 6 to Nov 30 in Lance unit. Big Piney hosts sheep and moose permits with October closures in others.
Over 606 top range bulls have been consigned. Julius Hewes president of the Wyoming Hereford Breeder's Association will judge the show on October 17. The sale follows on October 18 at the Rawlins fair grounds with H B Sager as auctioneer.
A survey of U S utilities shows Wyoming gas users climbing from 23 000 in 1940 to 35 100 in 1950, a 52 6 percent gain. National gas customers rose 57 1 percent, with central heating installations up 163 percent in ten years as demand grows.
Democratic contenders John J. McIntyre for Governor John B Clark for Congress Raymond E. Morris for State Treasurer and Glenn K Rogers for State Superintendent visited Big Piney on Tuesday afternoon meeting townspeople. They dined at Cottage Hotel on a special order and were escorted by Philip Marincio a county commissioner candidate before a Pinedale rally that evening.
The dental health program led by Dr. T J Drew will start a second round of topical fluoride treatments October 2 in Big Piney Pine Dale schools. About 536 local children already received applications, with new enrollees and ages 7 10 and 13 targeted for ongoing protection.
