County agents announce a Wednesday October 6 meeting at 1 00 PM in the Legion Hall Big Piney to discuss brucellosis eradication in Sublette County with state and federal veterinarians including Dr Good and Dr Manley. Also notes 4 H events and surrounding sales and awards.
The southwest district of the Wyoming Farm Bureau will hold its annual meeting in Pinedale October 4 and 5, with sessions starting at 10:00 A.M. Delegates from Teton, Lincoln, Sublette, Uinta, and Sweetwater counties will review county resolutions and policy recommendations to be presented at the statewide Wyoming Farm Bureau meeting in Casper November 5-7. officers, staff, and district leaders will discuss year’s reports, future plans, and elect district officers, with attendance by state staff including John Clay, Bill Hick, and Murdock.
A WYOMING Magazine feature describes Tinner Pewer Creek School near Sheridan in Sheridan County. Upper Beaver Creek School shows multi grade classes taught by Mrs Violet Ackerley with about a dozen students. The piece argues Wyoming rural education matches urban schools for accuracy in portraying America to Iron Curtain readers.
Mary Me fuley extension nutritionist will show ideas for party dare at the leader training meeting on Saturday October 12 at Pine Dale School. At a LaBarge meeting residents formed a corporation to bring television to the area. George Eubank was elected president, Jack Eubank vice president, and Oliver Gregory secretary treasurer. About $8,700 has been pledged, with donations sought to complete the project. Big Piney may gain similar apparatus for clearer pictures from outside.
The National Congress of Parents and Teachers designates October as recruitment month aiming for eleven million members this year. Wyoming reported 14,459 members last year, led by Levell Kocherkans as state president. The campaign targets a rise of over 300,000 nationally, with the California Congress largest at 1.6 million and Ohio Illinois Texas Pennsylvania following. Membership welcomes grandparents and others with an interest in children beyond teachers and parents. The effort supports the 1447-58 Action Program, The Family and the Community.
University of Wyoming Homecoming plans for 1957 run October 18 and 19. Events include a freshman football game versus Denver University, a Friday night sing, a Saturday parade at 10 00 am, and reunions for the class of 1932 and 50 year graduates. Alumni events feature a dinner at Knight Hall and an open house after the game with dances and a Saturday night reception or gym dance. Committee members include Ralph Halland Elliott Hayes Douglas R Johnson Mrs John Bunch and William Bragg.
Twelve homemaker members lead 4-H clubs with names such as Nellie Rogers and Beulah Conley. clubs funded trophies and shared demonstrations. Social events include Easter and Christmas parties, potlucks, picnics, and dances. The Daniel De More Club fixed a community hall, and groups organized library projects, citizenship talks, and charity activities for local schools and orphanages.

The Big Piney F Punchers defeated Cokeville 46 to 20 in Cokeville last Friday. Big Piney also beat Lyman 46 to 18 with Mike Albee and Bruce Barton scoring two touchdowns each. Dave Vickrey and Bil Bell contributed on offense and defense while Vickrey missed two games due to a concussion. The squad, coached by Jerry Parker, holds a straight win record with five games remaining, including homecoming games versus Farson and Pinedale.
Bob Sherwin sustained serious knife wounds and was hospitalized after a clash with two men named Reed and Amel Scott. Reed was captured and taken to Pinedale by Town Marshal Guy Carr and Deputy Game Warden Rea Wilkerson on a felony charge. Scott previously jailed and fined for disturbing the peace.
Mrs. James Carr and daughter Jamie plan to travel to San Francisco to meet her husband who has been honorably discharged from the Navy. He has served at Cubi Point in the Philippines for a year and earlier on the USS Shangri La after duty in the Aleutians. En route home to Big Piney they will visit J. N. Rolph in San Diego and Mrs. William Heintze, a former LaBarge resident, in Anaheim, California.
Greg Smith editor announced the October issue on newsstands across the state. The Wyoming feature traces the history of humanity’s exploitation of natural resources from ancient times to today. John Coulter of Cheyenne contributed 17 black and white illustrations and a modern color cover.
