Local Store Robbery Leaves $1500 in Goods Stolen

Bandits raided Burney & Company Saturday night taking men’s apparel blankets jewelry two guns and gloves. Sheriff Holt pursued suspects as a car stolen from Green River city wrecked in a canal near Daniel. most merchandise recovered with about $1000 missing. The thieves are believed hidden in the north country.

State Engineer Whiting Surveys Irrigable Lands Near Big Piney

State Engineer John A. Whiting with Mr. Meeker of Denver and L. D. Tamper of Water Division No. 4 toured Big Piney lands to inspect irri gable areas lying dormant. A report will be sent to Governor Emerson and the Interior Department in Washington to inform Boulder Dam plans.

Alex Kosumen Dies After Lingering Illness in Halfway

Alex Kosumen aged 45 died in Halfway Wyoming on Tuesday October 2 1929 following a long illness due to disease complications. He was a native of Finland and had lived in the area recently coming from Diamondville for health reasons. He previously worked in coal mines and at Oster ssut ranch, most recently staying at Gabe Huhta ranch in Halfway.

Open season on antelope ends Friday October 5 after six days of hunting. Local sportsmen reported antelope brought in on the first day while others were successful at various times. Desert east of here showed plentiful antelope.

Hoover may deliver address at Nebraska Diamond Jubilee

President Hoover has been invited to give a radio address during the Nebraska Diamond Jubilee in Omaha on November 3, 6 and 7. J Shannahan, general chairman, traveled to Washington to invite the President and discuss troop and aircraft participation with Secretary Good. The event, linked to the Ak-Sar-Ben Stock and Horse Show, celebrates Nebraska’s anniversary of statehood.

A severe Wednesday storm struck this region causing a haystack owned by Jas. B. Jensen to burn completely. The same storm damaged the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Nelse P. Christensen, ripping baseboards and entering a room. The storm was among the season's strongest locally.

States Get Large Sum From National Forests

The United States Department of Agriculture reports that 30 states will share more than 1.6 million dollars from National Forest receipts for the year ending June 30, 1929. Western states receive the bulk as they host most National Forest lands, with funds allotted for roads and schools and governed by a law that directs the money for public infrastructure.
