Big Piney school band performed strongly at Kammerer for the annual Music Week Festival with rivals from the district. Director Lester Gibson receives praise for guiding a talented group as the community cheers the high school auditorium event and crowds.

J B Budd county chairman announces the start of the U S War Fund Drive on May 11 with committees named for Big Piney, Pinedale, Cora, Merna, Baliway, Bendurant, Boulder, and other towns. Also details new sugar allowances for home canning under OPA rules and war bond promotion closes.
Grandma Josephine A Budd known as the Grand Old Lady of Big Piney marked her 100th birthday on May 6 1942 with a large family gathering at her home after sixty years in Piney She was born May 6 1823 in Clark County Ohio married Daniel Budd in 1871 and journeyed with him to Wyoming Territory Her life amid pioneer days was honored by relatives and officials including Governor Nels H Smith and various out of town guests
The Big Piney Committee on the China Relief Drive reports $105.01 collected in the district. Members Mrs. John Stevens Charman Mrs. Cliton Fear Sr Mrs. James F. Mickelson and Rev. Philip Handy led the drive on Wednesday and call the result very good.
The Bird family expresses gratitude to friends for beautiful flowers and kind words after a bereavement. Signatures include Mr. and Mrs. Jasper C. Bird, Mr. and Mrs. Walter A. Bird, Muss Jessie Bird, Howard Bird, Mrs. Jennie A. Merrell, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Bell, and Joseph Bird.
Margaret Katherine Kvenild eight months old daughter of Mr and Mrs John Kvenild of this place died after a brief illness at L C MS hospital in Kemmerer The body was returned here by Mortac van Francis Tanner for private funeral services at the Episcopal church conducted by Rev Vawley with burial in the Pinedale cemetery Relatives attending the funeral included Berry W Jenkins grandfather Lois Jenkins of Salt Lake City and Norman Barley of Cora The family expresses the communitys sympathy in this bereavement
At a Green River Development Company meeting held Saturday on Green River H Melvin Rollins of Cheyenne Lyman was reelected president He has held the position for several years P W Jenkins of Big Piney was retained as executive manager David P B Miller of Rock Springs was reelected secretary and EH B Hitchcock of Tuck Springs was reelected treasurer The group discussed seeking equal water division from the upper Colorado among Colorado Utah Wyoming and New Mexico.
Lieutenant Fred Spreng, formerly with the Military Police Guard unit and later stationed on the west coast, visited Green River in the first part of last week. He is remembered by Mrs. Spreng and their daughter, and has ties to Big Pinney High School.
The Big Piney LaBarge Sportsmen’s Association met Tuesday evening with solid turnout. Topics included fish and game matters, magpie control with bounties, pond work, and fish planting. Bounties set at 5¢ per magpie egg or fledgling, 10¢ per old magpie. funds handled by Jesse Bull and Quie Gregory. Annual dues announced due.
Six year tally from the School Activity Fund shows varied tournament results and balances from 1936 to 1941 with expenses and incomes reported. Upcoming events include Baccalaureate at Community Church May 1 and Commencement May 21 at Community Hall with Mr Ray Webertson delivering the address.
The Amoezi can Legion Ausiary Unit 78 showed a Poppy window scene from Manders Field cemetery. The central display featured a field of poppies at a cross with hospital ward veteran images and Uncle Sam. The Auxiliary thanks Dr G T Morgan for using his window.
