Robrt L Smith, Korea War veteran and the first quadruple amputee, has joined the VA as a tabulating machine operator in the Machine Records Division. He learned to use complex equipment after training at the International Business Machine Co in Washington DC, and at VA facilities. Smith, wounded in North Korea, spent months at Walter Reed before returning to work. He emphasizes proving his ability and urges not judging handicapped people by losses but by what they can do. He is married with a 16 month old son.
