Howard C. Flanders of Rutland Vermont recalls a near fatal threshing accident in 1924 while working in western Canada. He plunged onto a carrier to free a blocked knife row, rode toward the blades as the machine sped, and escaped by leaping onto a wagon bundle rack with the plant and crew scrambling to halt the rig. A machine owner saved him by slowing the gear with his hand. The tale ends with Flanders home safe and a pledge of gratitude to the helper.
