March 1 surveys show reduced snow in the Bridger National Forest versus last year and below normal. Upper Green River drainage snow water content at 63% of last year and 71% of normal. Salt River and Greys River 95% of last year and 82% of normal. Measured sites include Mulligan Park 11 inches water from 29.7 inches snow, Kendall 5.7 inches water from 27 inches snow, Looms Park 11.9 inches water from 44.3 inches snow, and Cottonwood Lake 13.5 inches water from 48.2 inches snow. Overall light snowfall across the forest signals stressed irrigation supplies next summer.

The Corps of Engineers plans 14 miles of levees along the Snake River in the Jackson area western Wyoming to control floods. The project, estimated at 1.01 million dollars, would cost local interests and includes levees on both river banks plus two more shorter banks upstream and downstream. Gasper March report notes prolific oil pools in southern Big Horn basin spur leasing and geophysical exploration. Fields include Mose Worland South Fork Sand Creek and Neither Dome. Operators and majors Atlantic Refining Shell Texas Sinclair California Gulf leased blocks across the basin.
