Last Sad Rites for Oscar Johnston Held Saturday

The last sad rites for Oscar Johnston were held at the Congregational Community church on Saturday afternoon. He died Thursday in Soda Springs Idaho from organic heart disease after an operation for bladder troubles three weeks prior. Perry W. Jenkins spoke at the funeral and led the Lord's Prayer. the grave was dedicated at Big Piney cemetery and several local residents sang hymns. Oscar Johnston, born June 8 1870 in Van Buren County Iowa, moved to Wyoming 32 years ago and lived as a bachelor, leaving survivors including a brother, sister, and two nephews.

Sheridan Editor Announces Candidacy for State Office

Fine mahogany boat on display at Western Drug Co

Hon Perry W Jenkins displays a top quality boat in the adjoining room of Western Drug Co. The vessel, built by Boyd Martin, seats eight passengers across three large benches. Jenkins plans to use the boat on New York and Middle Piney lakes this summer aided by a large motor.

Wyoming illiteracy advisory committee named by Interior secretary

The State Advisory Committee on Illiteracy appointed by Secretary of Interior Ray Lyman Wilbur includes Mrs. R. A. Sebel Casper. Mr. J. L. Goins Cheyenne. Mr. C. S. Hill Superior. Mr. EB. M. Thompson Rock Springs. Rev. Edwin A. Bell Cheyenne. Mrs. J. J. Marshall Sheridan. Mr. James Morgan Cheyenne. Mr. V. C. Coulter Laramie. Mr. FM Treat Cheyenne. Mr. ZL. R. Probst Laramie. Mrs. Bertha Van Devender Basin. Bishop P. A. ef Govern Cheyenne. The committee met February 4 in the State Department of Education and elected F. M. Treat state chairman to lead county superintendents in forming local committees aimed at reducing illiteracy statewide. The group notes Wyoming ranks high nationally in illiteracy and asks for broad cooperation with a goal of improving statewide literacy. The slogan is Wyoming to the top.

Royal Neighbors Show and Dance Grand Success

Royal Neighbors lodge presented What a Husband Don't Know and Woman the Silent Sufferer at Clyde Hall last Friday. Mrs. Ralph Mills and son Art Willard offered vocal solos while husbands left wiser. A well attended dance followed with local music, proceeds aiding church benefits.

Highway Snow Clearing Continues Across Region

The state highway department sent a truck with a large blade from Kemmerer to clear snow, then moved to Daniel and Pinedale, arriving Tuesday evening and departing Wednesday morning. Northbound highways remain snowed in and will take two to three days to finish the job.
