Government orders end segregation in military post schools
A 1952 Defense Department directive, backed by President Eisenhower, ends racial segregation in all military post schools and prohibits opening new segregated schools. The directive rolls out across the Navy Army and Air Force by September 1 1981, with the Wil son order requiring integration at base schools funded by federal money. Also notes a White House Interior Department dinner with officials including Douglas McKay Conrad Wirth and Walt Disney prepared for National Parks exploration.
