VA expands life insurance for veterans converts many to permanent plans
The VA announced that over six million NSLI policies are in force, with more than two million in permanent plans. Since 1945 permanent plans rose from one percent to about three percent of policies. Some term policies may be converted to permanent plans, with qualified veterans paying the same or increasing rates as they age. Permanent plans offer guaranteed values such as cash surrender value, policy loans, and paid-up insurance. Lapsed term policies within five years may be reinstated and converted before term expiry. Veterans can request full information by writing to the VA office handling their premiums.

Tuberculosis Tuberculin Testing and Holmes Creator Mention
The article discusses Robert Koch developing tuberculin to detect prior exposure to tuberculosis germs. It explains a tuberculin reaction signals past contact, not active disease, and likens it to a Sherlock Holmes clue guiding doctors to trace and prevent further spread by examining associates of reactors.
