Junior Rodeo To Be Staged Here Sunday June 10

Sublette County roping club announces the first real rodeo at the local grounds next Sunday afternoon June 10. Junior bronc riders and topers will perform, with events including bareback bronc riding calf roping bull riding and cow milking. Girls compete in a barrel race and a band box race with no entrance fee.

Bill Introduced To Transfer Lands In Jacksons Hole

Congressman Thomson introduces H R 11501 calling for transfer of federal land in Jacksons Hole designated for the South Park Fish Hatchery to Jackson Wyoming. Mayor Clissold requests the move to create a Boy Scout camping ground while surplus land awaits reallocation. The move aims to support a new hatchery nearby with funds and later construction tied to the Palisades project.

Weather records for the last 18 years show average temperature 52.0 with a high of 70.0 and a record high of 90 in 1954. Average low is 25.0 with a record low of 21 in 1945. Frosts in June occurred every year except two. Precipitation averages 1.0 inch with a low of .79 in 1954 and a high of 2.99 in 1948. Mr and Mrs Rolkie Optenberg of Pinedale were local visitors.

Impressive funeral for Dave Johnson pioneer cattleman

Funeral rites held last Thursday for Dave Johnson aged 62 in Finedals adfiedating. Johnson born March 17 1874 west of Split Rock Wyoming territory, lived in Green River valley, bought Vickrey place, later Thyson race on New Fork. Survived by wife Maggie two children Pat Johnson and Berneice Hull, sister Louise Snively, brother William Johnson, eight grandchildren. interment in Pinedale cemetery.

Norman Barlow Addresses Wyoming Stock Growers Meeting

Norman Barlow president of the association urged moving toward an agriculture “award of the state” as delegates to the Wyoming Stock Growers annual meeting in Rawlins discussed farm problem causes. He argued government price supports distort markets and favored supply and demand as the price guide while criticizing federally dominated agriculture and urging better advertising to raise cattle consumption and prices.

Noted speaker to address American Legion convention in Cody

Colonel Arthur E. Boudreau of the United States Air Force Academy will address The American Legion Wyom­ing Department Convention in Cody, June 21 to 23. He will speak at 2 p.m. Friday, June 22. Boudreau has 12 years active duty, helped select 159 colleges for the Air Force College Training Program, and led the project establishing the Air Academy. He is a Norwich University graduate with a Boston University master’s degree and study at Harvard in educational administration and advanced sciences.

State Home Demonstration Council To Hold Annual Meeting

The Wyoming State Home Demonstration Council will meet June 12 to 14 at the University of Wyoming Agricultural Building with about 125 delegates from 23 counties. The program includes talks on Home Demonstration Work, Health and Safety, Civil Defense, workshops, and an informal dinner with a style show. Omaha market reports show cattle steady to 26 cents lower amid abundant receipts. Steers and yearlings sold around 21 to 22 with loads at 21.50 and 22. Heavy steers near 20.50, plain killers down to 14. Cows firm to 25 cents higher, canners 9.25 to 10.75, Bert cows to 13 and helpers to 15.25. Hog market mostly 25 cents lower. sows 1250 to 916.35.
