Big Piney Soil District Meets With New SCS Technician
The Big Piney Soil Conservation District held its first meeting with the new Soil Conservation Service technician on May 31 at John Evenild’s home. Attendees included Frank Bray, Dan Chapel, Frank D. Ball Jr., John Evenild, other supervisors, and guests. They discussed renewing the research program focused on mountain meadow yields, water control, fertilizers, grasses, and alkali issues, and drafted an annual Work Plan after voting to wait for the new technician. The board approved vouchers per the audit report. The meeting ended at 10 33 PM with refreshments served by Mrs Evenild. The report also notes the fire ant threat and references USDA agronomy findings on seed size improving stand establishment for several grasses in drought conditions.

The Western Regional Farm Bureau conference runs June 12 13 and 14 at Jackson Lake lodge near Moren Wyoming. Local Boy Scouts Attend Jamborette at Fort Bridger
Local Boy Scouts from Troop 22 and others joined the Jim Bridger council at Fort Bridger for a two day jamboree. Victor S McGinnis Jr won second in wild animal identification while Sheldon Windsey Jr took third in plant identification. About two hundred scouts participated in knot tying, wildlife, first aid, compass work, Morse code, and pancake cooking contests. They toured the Fort Bridger museum and attractions during the event.

Survey Shows Good Trout Fishing in Wyoming
Wyoming anglers in the 1956 Game and Fish census averaged seven fish per outing across 2,632 survey respondents. Another group of 6,613 fishermen reported 13 trout per hour, with state warden Fred Beal noting the fishing quality ranks well against national averages. Beans to send overseas aid by Christian Rural Program
The Christian Rural Overseas Program of Colorado and Wyoming will ship 70,000 pounds or thirty five tons of beans to the Near East to aid refugees in Syria Lebanon and Jordan. The beans were bought from state CROP funds chaired by Paul Swisher and Rev Tom Franks announced through local dedication services led by Rev Jack Reeve. CROP distributes food in car load lots to hunger areas and accepts government surplus as well at 200 pounds per dollar.

New Town Elects First Female Mayor and Council Members

Pioneer Holden Dies From Fall in Long Beach
Howard Holden a pioneer resident of Ait Pear Valley since 1912 died at a Long Beach hospital after a fall from his roof while cleaning gutters. He had fractured his hip and suffered from injuries after the accident at his home earlier in May. Holden arrived in California from Wyoming in 1911 and built a mill in Big Bear Valley before settling in the Fontenelle country, where a street bears his name as a memorial. He was 77.
