Price Outlook for Slaughter Cattle in 1940
The report projects total cattle and calf slaughter near 1939 levels in 1940 with 12 percent more cattle on feed as of January 1. Slaughter of fed cattle to rise while breeding cattle fall, and marketing plans show heavy fed cattle sales through May with lighter activity in June to August and a rise again later. May 1 figures indicate feed left on hand similar to 1939, and total slaughter from May 1 to December 30 expected to be less than in 1939.
