Licensing urged for sitters and preschool centers nationwide
State legislatures and city councils are urged to pass laws licensing all baby sitters, private kindergartens, day care agencies, and nursery and play schools. Licensing should be regulatory not revenue, addressing poor standards endangering infant health and welfare. Proposals include physical exams for sitters, character references, and mandatory training courses offered as community evening classes.
