Helena Marincic Engaged to Robert G. Linn

Mrs Philp Marincic Sr of Big Piney announces the engagement of daughter Helena to Robert G. Linn of Buffalo Wyoming. Helena, 42, Wyoming University graduate and Home Demonstration Agent, lives in Gillette. Linn, son of Ralph Linn of Moneta, is a Wyoming graduate and Sol Conservation staff member. A June wedding is planned.

Shivering Big Piney proves resilient in power outage

Local report from Big Piney Wyoming notes a fire cut power for days, halting water pumps and heat. Despite nationwide attention to the town’s “shivering” incident, residents largely endured with blankets and stoves as a diesel generator arrived from Cheyenne. Bank vaults remained an exception with continued operation.

Wyoming 4 H Youth Award Winners Named

In 1964 four Wyoming teens received state honors in 4H Public Speaking and Citizenship programs. Larry Keyser of Sundance and Kathrene Kelley of Cheyenne earned certificates and prizes for speeches on The Moving Earth and 4 H s Democracy. Dick Gilman and James Hamilton also received honors for citizenship related records. Club leaders and local leaders are named. awards are under the Cooperative Extension Service.

No business stoppage after Big Piney fire last week

There was no business stoppage in Big Piney last week after the fire, and reports of a halt were erroneous until the bank closed for an electrically operated vault. The vault is time operated and business continued as before the fire, power restored within 24 hours. Mr and Mrs George Nidva and two children spent New Year’s Day with Mr and Mrs Myron Myrick in Evanston.

A January 4 1955 letter to editor George Hopkins from Griggs Power and Light Co of Big Piney Wyoming thanks patrons for their cooperation after a recent fire. The note praises volunteer fire fighters including unnamed volunteers and mentions Wortham Machinery Co of Cheyenne and their Rock Springs manager Bill Roshek and the M K Company for mobile generating units. American Legion Auxiliary notes January meeting

The January meeting of AntiHary with the Legion included opening ceremony, a review of December's irritations, a $5.00 donation to the March of Dimes, and a remarks on an Auxiliary rules contest. A Community Chili Supper and Bingo party is planned for January 12 at 6:30 PM with 75 and 50 cent prices. Dues remain delinquent through January 31, followed by a social hour and Legion refreshments.
