The county commissions order the county grader to clear brush on an extended strip as Big Piney airport is widened and lengthened to accommodate larger planes. The dirt field is praised as smooth and ideal for year round use, with light winter snow not hindering landings. The air field sits a mile north of town on a flat bench offering ample space.

Sublette County Red Cross chapter sets 1948 goal at 1000 dollars with 700 staying county and 400 to national and international chapters. Ben Rahm chairs a drive expansion. Rosalie Hackett leads Pine Dale division with local auxiliaries. Past year funds aided families, medical clinics equipment, and ex-GIs families. appeal urged generous donations to reach the 1948 total.
A letter from James and Ronnie Thompson of Maryhill Glasgow to the University of Wyoming requested old gun holsters and a photo of a cowboy. The note, signed by the youths aged 11 and 8, arrived via postal delivery and was routed to Comptroller Fay E. Smith in Laramie.
The Big Piney Parent-Teacher Association met February 16 at 8:00 pm with President Crpilola Leo ney in charge. They voted to organize Room Mothers in each room to assist teachers with monthly planning of entertainment and refreshments. first meetings set for March 1 after school. The group awarded a picture to the room with most parent involvement each month, with the top winner keeping it at end of May. The PTA approved using dues for guest speakers and community programs, with local talks by 4-H leader Fairold Hurich, nurse Edna Weidner, and veterinarian Dr Renow upcoming. a health check for students followed. Additional notes covered preschools, dentist visits, classroom visits by parents, and youth programs led by Mardell Srear, Camp Fire and Boy Scout activities, conservation themes, and a tour of Boys Town.
The annual amateur hour and dance will be held on March 27. All entries must be turned in to Mrs. Guy Carr before March 24. The opening number will be performed by the Junior Auxiliary. Participants are encouraged to practice to win one of the first three prizes.
LARAMIE Wyoming Education Association committee on teacher education and professional standards proposes plans to require school districts to fund in service training for teachers. Dr O Schwiering committee chair and dean says traveling teachers would provide field support if accepted.
Governor Lester C. Hunt proclaims February 21 to 27 as Future Farmers of America Week in Wyoming. The notice cites the FFA’s twentieth year and links agricultural prosperity to leadership, cooperation, and community service fostered by FFA members and leaders. A. G. Crane signs as Secretary of State.
Cheyenne’s first bank began in a tent, moved to a corner grocer’s shop, and by October 1887 stood in a large building at Eddy and 16th streets. It opened Sept 28 1887 as Rogers and Company a Denver First National Bank branch. Deposits reached $100000 by Jan 1 1868. UP railroad sales began July 22 1857. Two other banks Kountze Brothers and J A Ware opened cheyenne branches in 1868 per UW archives.
John Stevens proprietor of Shell Service Station slipped while gassing a large tractor owned by Pete McLelland last Friday. He bruised himself badly, was taken to Kemmerer hospital for observation, no broken bones found, and Mr. Bledsoer retrieved him Monday.
At a Feb 19 meeting of Sublette County Historical Society officers the Green River Rendezvous will become an annual event on the first Sunday in July, this year July 4. No admission, seven-inch programs offered for sale. Regular April meeting planned. all interested may join. Society seeks help to make the rendezvous notable in the West. Also, Tom Hoskins celebrates 87th birthday Feb 17 with a surprise dinner at New Pioneer Cafe, honored by Mrs Hoskins and Marshal Louis Jones. He has deep Wyoming roots and served as state treasurer and senator.
Twenty seven members of the University of Wyoming rifle teams petition to recognize small bore rifle shooting as a minor sport by the Associated Students. The rifle program would remain under the military department with a 26 person varsity squad chosen by tryouts. The ten highest scorers would participate in each match and minor sport awards would go to top ten varsity members who completed 25 postal matches in January February and March each year.
