Livestock shipping plans for small ranchers in California

In California the shift from large ranches to smaller farm units changes meat supply dynamics. Subdividing land increases dependence on small ranchers, prompting organized shipping days and bonded commission firms at Los Angeles Union Stock Yards. This system consolidates small lots into carloads, stabilizes prices, and lowers transport costs while offering markets and price prospects to individual shippers. Farm Bureaus back the plan to reduce shipping costs and prevent exploitation by itinerant buyers.
