Burning Gas Well Shut Off After Friday Blaze
The Belco Petroleum Corporation B-1 WS gas well nine miles west of town ignited last Friday night and burned until Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters from Texas led by Red Adair extinguished the blaze using Titroglycern at the base. The well reportedly holds about 2000 feet of gas pressure and caused rocks to be tossed by bursting casing. Loss is estimated in the thousands. Adair will speak to the Lions Club about extinguishing gas and oil well fires.
