Old Astor House Becomes Mackinac Community Center
The historic Astor House at Mackinac Island, once headquarters of the American Fur Company and a pivotal fur trade post, is being rehabilitated as a community center. Girl Scouts and local women spearhead the drive, preserving timbers, hand-hewn stair rails, and artifacts as the building returns to civic use.
