Wyoming stockmen face losses as frost and drought intensify
A harsh 1939 drouth spreads across Wyoming as cattle shipments run ahead of normal. Russell Thorp of the Wyoming Stock Growers Association warns of possible overshipping and reduced breeding stock, while state officials seek emergency freight rates to ease shipments of livestock, hay, and concentrates. The drought covers 15 of 23 counties, with ranges burning and only scattered showers in the growing season. Governor Smith asks three railroads for drought emergency rates to aid stockmen.
