Final 4-H Home Ec Contest Held Here July 28

Fifteen girls joined judging demonstrations and a style review at Sublette County 4-H Home Economics contest held July 28 with about fifty in attendance. Deanne Fear led junior judging with 58 of 600, claiming top honors and an achievement mantle. Samira O’Neil and Miriam Grinder followed. Senior divisions produced demonstrations on party sandwiches, cookies, nail care, leather decoration, and beer themes, earning compacts and mantle pieces. Sublette pairs will compete at the State Fair in Douglas in early September, while the County Fair in Big Piney runs August 27–28 with exhibits judged on the 27th.

Reckless Driving Count Gets Cody Man $250 Fine

Bradford Bond from Cody Wye involved in a July 31 accident that injured five passengers in the car he drove. He faced two counts in Pinedale Justice Court Leo Sease Dr Bert Renow presiding. First count fined $25 plus costs for operating a vehicle without a valid license. Second count fined $250 plus costs and a 30 day jail term, suspended due to his discharge from hospital. Bond appeared in court.

Road Plan Aims to Improve Middle Piney Creek Route

Plans outline upgrades on Middle Piney Creek road from Vernon Johnson's gate to the forest line and a parallel improvement from Middle Finey Creek to Fish Creek. The project extends toward Snider Basin via Coal Creek, enhancing access along several creeks and to forest areas.

The Sublette County Artist Guild met at the Pinedale Inn on Thursday July 23 for a three month luncheon. President Madge Funk presided. After lunch the program covered anniversaries with readings and poems by Dorothy Sargent Marie Meyer and others. Ethel Jewett and Mrs. Elton Cooley spoke of a Calgary trip to the Stampede and Miss Jewett played a piano solo.

Mes Roy Chamberlin, late president of the Wyoming Federation of Republican Women, announced the appointment of state chairmen for the next two years. Mrs James B Griffith Jr leads State Public Residens chair, with Sheridan's Mrs Carlo Beuf as vice chair. other chairs include Bartling, Thrailkill, Emmellidorf, Pettersom, Nelson, Warnicke, and Miss Verda James. A meeting is set for August 13 at Casper to plan clubs' year and tentative 1956 convention.

Forest road project progresses in Piney Creek area

Work on the forest road in the North Piney Creek region advances as crews finish the stretch from the Edwards Creek drift fence downstream to North Piney Creek. Crews are now tackling creek crossings and the Apperson Creek road with the road camp set at Edwards Creek's lower end.

Charles P Noble Dies in Ogden After Long Cattle Career

Charles Powers Noble longtime Big Piney cattle raiser and rancher died at his Ogden home on July 25 or 29 in Utah. Born March 28, 1879 in Joplin Missouri he moved to Big Piney in 1887 with his family. He married Grace Hathaway in 1906 and Frances Tarter in 1941. Survived by widow and four grandchildren Kenneth Robert Donald Noble and Sally Noble. Funeral at St Anne’s Catholic Church with pallbearers named. interment in Big Piney cemetery.

Upper Colorado River Project Backed by Grass Roots Group

Tom Bolack of Farmington New Mexico chairs the Aqualante group urging continued support for the Colorado Storage Project. He says action is deferred to next January but the bill retains priority and will get full approval with bipartisan backing in the next session. CROP Campaigns Start Across Regions To Aid Overseas Hunger

Rev Tom Franks Colorado Wyoming CROP director announces campaigns in twenty two states and nearly a thousand counties to feed the hungry overseas. More than a million Americans expected to share harvest to help the 120 million in need. campaigns run this month through December with Phillips and Washington counties first in Colorado. Commodities needed include beans wheat flour sugar and canned meat as part of surplus distribution and direct ship from the country. Resident antelope hunting permits will go on sale over the weekend of August 13. Wyom Game and Fish Department chief clerk J. Jiaco sett announced that seventy five of the 41 iS antelope permits are reserved for residents. Krueger Predicts Oil Boom In Southwest Wyoming

Max L. Krueger of Laramie, at the Wyoming Geological Association meeting in Rock Springs, predicts a natural gas and oil boom in the Green River basin within the next year. He notes El Paso field at Pinedale and Tip Top development by General Petroleum, with Three strings of tools active from Opal to main line and wildcat drilling at Hogsback west of LaBarge.

Kerr May Be Next U. S. District Judge

Former Wyoming Republican Chairman Ewing T. Kerr of Cheyenne was recommended to Attorney General Herbert Brownell for appointment as Wyoming’s next U. S. District Judge. Senator Barrett said Kerr, 55, would replace Judge T. Blake Kennedy and become Wyoming’s third federal district judge since 1890. Kerr, a former attorney general and district attorney, has broad endorsements and is expected to be immediately appointed by President Eisenhower with swift Senate confirmation. He came from Oklahoma 30 years ago and served in World War II earning three battle stars and leading allied courts in Europe and Italy.
