Pat Johnson wins the river wager against Sonny Clements by landing nine fish first at 5:00 pm earning the title Fastest Rod In The West. The report blends local fishing contest lore with farm land value data and a note on Hereford cattle with extra ribs from Arizona tests.
Canned goods checks and fall projects are urged as the community hosts a merdlework trophy for knitted items, plus exhibits in floriculture art craft and culinary. Junior division welcomes high school ages and younger with a fish pond and carnival novelties. Entries due soon for the August 25 event.
The Wyoming Travel Commission will hold its regular monthly meeting in Evanston on August 11 from 9 am to 12 noon at the Evanston Chamber of Commerce building. Frank Norris Jr is director and invites attendees to arrange by writing him. the lunch will be hosted by the Evanston Chamber and local leaders. After lunch the group will tour Bear River ghost town and sites along the Mormon, Pony Express, and Ourland Trails, including old railroad grades and historic kilns at Piedmont and Fort Bridger.

John S. Mackey announces Sublette County Savings Fund Committee figures for the first half of 19? with total sales of 82,552 and June purchases rising 14.7% from last year. Year to date sales reach 3,319,529, up 23% over the prior year.
Sublette County Roping Club held a Jackpot Rodeo at the fairgrounds with top placers across bareback saddle bronc calf roping and rope events. Winners include Bob Boyce Pinedale Vern McWilliams Big Piney Paul Gransden Pinedale and Jonita Sommers among others with Ike McWilliams noting it was one of the largest jackpots yet and thanks to participants.
Fire swept through the Farrell Bar after a propane tank leak caused an explosion around 11 30 p m Sunday. The Big Piney Fire Department fought the blaze but the building was a total loss, with $55 000 in damage. Nearby Silver Spur Bar escaped major damage, while flames scattered across the highway toward Jade's Cafe. Glenn Chivers owned the bar, Pim managed it, and Ed Bradley investigated for the state fire marshal.
Dick Tanner arrived home from Fort Lewis Washington to take over the Tanner undertaking business. He was appointed County Coroner by the Board of County Commissioners, a position his father Francis Tanner held for many years before his death in the recent accident.
Secret monument work by Bridger and Caribou National Forest crews marks Lander Trail sections with concrete posts and brass plaques showing a pioneer wagon sketch and the date 2857. The project ties to fur trade routes and historical figures, with fragments noting emigrant traffic and visits by local residents.
Heinie Summers of Pinedale resigns as Sublette County Clerk on May 51 1967 after twenty years in office due to loss of an eye. He was elected in November 1946 and began service January 1947. Robert Evans of Boulder named by county board to replace him. Evans, son of Helen Evans, worked with Wyoming Farm Bureau Insurance and holds a master's in electrical engineering from the University of Wyoming. He taught in Kerr or Montana prior to returning to Boulder.
Resident antelope hunters may begin purchasing 1967 antelope licenses Saturday August 12 at 9 am. Licenses go on sale statewide that date through licensing offices near valid permits. Quotas are limited and early sales are anticipated. Local offices urge hunters to buy early.
Harold Claus of Wickenburg Arizona and Emery Miller of La Verne California, mapping crew members for the US Geological Survey, died when their helicopter crashed and burned Thursday July 27 about 40 miles north of Pinedale. Wreckage found Friday after an all night search. helicopter apparently had trouble and attempted an emergency landing. The accident ended a six month mapping mission in the mountainous area north of Pinedale.
Bridger National Forest Supervisor William O Deshler announced a prospectus for a new resort 34 miles north of Pinedale Wyoming. Bids invite construction and operation of a public service facility with meals lodging packing riding services groceries gas and oil and gifts hiking gear and supplies. Construction planned over two years with full service by 1970. Copies available from Forest Supervisor or Campberer Wyoming Box 31 and District Range at Pinsdale Wyoming.
