Last Friday night thieves pried open four doors at Bob's Coffee Shop on the south highway and stole cash from the register a radio a cigarette and several slot machines. One machine was later found undamaged but cleaned of coins. No arrests reported. The shop is run by Mrs. Fisher.
Wyoming Governor Nels Smith refused Nebraska's request to close headgates in four eastern Wyoming districts on the North Platte River to aid drought-stricken crops in Nebraska. State Engineer L C Bishop said Wyoming cannot close gates as it would jeopardize local crops. The dispute centers on water apportionment from the river. Negotiations continue between Wyoming and Nebraska authorities.
Douglas Wyoming reports new starting barriers will entice racehorse owners to bring pure thoroughbreds to the Wyoming state fair September 8 11. Lem Carmin says barriers will improve race handling and reduce delays alongside updated starting chutes paddocks and guard rails from stables to paddocks with stalls in high demand for a 12 day three program setup leading to Goshen Torrington Scotts Bluff fairs.
D ONeil is in town this morning from his Cottonwood ranch. The picture Union Pacific shown at the Gaiety theatre drew packed houses Sunday afternoon and evening and Monday evening. Don’t miss Jesse James at the Gaiety Theatre in Piney this weekend. it's cited as one of 1935’s best releases and a high thrill.
Wyoming highway superintendent Frank Kelso orders patrols to strictly enforce speed limits and curb traffic violations with court action. Dr L D Hunt cites hopeful trends and law of averages to reduce fatalities in coming months. Patrol captain William Larwood says orders reach all duty personnel with garages and service stations acting as checks on lights and brakes.
Colonel B E Grey announces the Salt Lake City Army Recruiting District now covers all of Wyoming, enlarging the district to become the largest Western territorial unit. The Cheyenne office remains the only Wyoming station, with plans to add more sites and increase enlistment opportunities nationwide.
Governor Smith said the general fund expects a surplus of over 2 million dollars by the end of the 1939 41 biennium driven by higher sales tax and liquor revenues. The expected cash balance could permit a lower property tax levy, with assessed valuation near 330 million in 1939 and current balances rising from 650 thousand to about 1 25 million by 1939 40 and over 2 million by 1941.
Heavy rains last weekend drenched the Green River Valley causing hay to be flattened and stalled stack drying. Clout bursts near LaBarge washed out road sections while a cloud burst hit Olson ranch on New York. Despite damage to ranchers and roads, the downpour revived grazing land and reduced forest fire risk, potentially worth millions to ranchers.

John Wardell had the Ford steering apparatus fail yesterday morning causing the vehicle to strike the highway bridge railing south of Bob's Service Station. His daughter and son-in-law Mr and Mrs Ira McWilliams were in the truck. aside from scratches, no injuries were reported and the vehicle was badly damaged.
Wyoming officials received assurances that about 83 percent of workers on a $7,000,000 oil pipeline through Wyoming will be hired locally. Wham G Hetzel of Denver, Utah Oil Refining general superintendent, told Governor Nels W. Smith that roughly 5 percent of the labor will be local, with the remainder filling supervisory and skilled roles as inspectors and key contractor positions.
The Salvation Army thanks donors for support of its Denver home and hospital for unmarried mothers serving Wyoming, Colorado, Montana and Utah. Cautions the public against imposters. Adjutant Swanson listed as authorized solicitor with credentials from Salvation Army Headquarters.
State 4-H Club Leader reports ninety five members across eleven counties joined an effort to hatch and rear pheasants at Sheridan with eggs sent from the Game Bird Farm. More than 1400 eggs in settings of 13 each were distributed, with counties including Campbell, Fosseni, Goshen, Not Springs, Natrona, Tobrara Back, Sweetwater, Sheridan, and Unitarsi. Members must have birds checked at 10 to 12 weeks and may receive 10 cents per bird, subject to prior approval by the State Club Leader.
C Ed Lewis, manager of the Wyoming Petroleum Corporation, spent the past week in Salt Lake City on a business visit.
Perry W. Jenkins arrived in town on Tuesday from his western ranch where he and Mrs. Jenkins are located for the summer, staying at a local residence.
